GUMI Wood decking is ready for simple, quick and hassle-free installation without the use of special additional tools. GUMIdeck wood decking boards are also known as "Wood Decking" and are made from durable natural thermo ash wood. Terrace boards are machine oiled using selected special oils, with the addition of UV filters and colour pigments, which protects the boards from intense sunlight and sudden temperature changes.
Heat-treated real wood planks with a simple click system that allows for easy assembly and disassembly, able to create a variety of fit patterns. The tiles can be used at any time of the year. The connecting connector is slip-resistant, stable in the ground and high load-bearing.
Scope : Terrace, balcony, exterior, interior, garden for special living spaces such as your conservatory, patio or balcony.
STEP 1
Before you start laying your wooden patio, read the following information and prepare yourself:
We do not recommend permanently fixing the Gumi system to the terrace surface. Gumi has been designed as a "floating system". Do not under any circumstances strike the boards with an iron hammer or other hard objects as this can lead to permanent damage to the wooden boards.
Use of the terrace
We do not recommend using metal objects in direct contact with the patio slabs for a long period of time, as the metal can leave imprints on the slabs. It is necessary to ensure that the patio slabs are kept clear of vegetation. Direct plant contact with the GUMI deck boards leads to accelerated biodegradation of the wood. It is particularly important to protect your patio from vegetation overgrowth between the Gumi wooden boards. If it is necessary to cover the surface (e.g. renovation and painting), it is best to use carpet or cardboard. Long term covering of the patio with an impermeable material can cause strong and permanent differences in colour between the covered and uncovered part of your patio on your balcony, patio with waterproofing. Do not cover the terrace with foil or other air-impermeable material during the winter period.
The GUMI terrace surface can be washed with a soft brush and water. It is possible to use mild chemical cleaners designed for oiled wooden terraces. To remove dirt from the terrace surface - such as sand, leaves and pine needles, use a soft brush. It is also necessary to remove accumulated sand, leaves and pine needles that block the free flow of rainwater from the patio. In winter, snow should be removed - carefully, so as not to damage the surface of the boards. We recommend avoiding the use of metal, aluminium shovels and rather use a broom to remove the snow. Do not use salt or other chemicals to remove snow at all, as this could damage the wooden boards.
The floor can be easily disassembled and reassembled when you want to clean underneath.
Try to keep the patio clean and dry. Keep an eye out for any areas where unoiled boards may have been damaged or scraped. These are signals that the patio surface should soon be protected with a new coat of oil. The frequency of maintenance depends on the location of the patio, the degree of wear and tear and exposure to sun and rain. The quality, appearance and durability of a GUMI terrace depends mainly on its proper and regular care. Frequency of care (required during the warranty period). Maintenance of the terrace should be carried out depending on the degree of wear of the surface layer of the wooden boards. In case of clear cuts, chips and defects in the protective oil layer, it is necessary to first carry out the so-called STRENGTHENING using generally available chemicals for strengthening wooden terraces (according to the manufacturer's instructions) and then applying a new layer of protective oil with a brush, roller or cloth. In order to restore an undamaged oil layer, you should first wash the patio with water and a soft brush only and apply a new coat of oil when completely dry, always following the manufacturer's care/maintenance product instructions.
By painting regularly, about once a year, you can easily protect your floor from wear and tear.
For regular care, it is recommended to use dispersed wood oils containing colour pigment. Oil with colour pigment evens out the colour of the surface of the terrace and, thanks to the fact that it is a UV barrier, significantly prolongs the patination (greying) process of terraces made of natural wood.
If possible, wooden boards and connectors should be stored in a cool, dry room. When stored outdoors, the boards should be covered with a waterproof cover to protect them from e.g. snow. Air must be circulated freely to prevent moisture or mould and exposure to sunlight causing loss of colour.
The substrate should be level with a slope to prevent water droplets from settling on it and to provide for rainwater runoff (standard 1-2 cm/m). The GUMI terrace is a "floating" terrace that adapts and follows the unevenness of your subfloor. In order to achieve a satisfactory final effect, it is necessary that irregularities on the floor, such as (dry plaster residues, pieces of concrete, etc.) are removed. The subfloor should be stable, it should have the correct hardness, that is, it does not bend under pressure. The GUMI terrace can be installed as standard on the following types of substrate: concrete outlets, concrete, tile/tile/terracotta, non-ferrous concrete paving, interlocking paving, wood, sheet metal, iron, EPDM waterproofing and others.
The actual size of the GUMI complex terrace may differ slightly from the size of the terrace proposed in the calculator. Tolerable deviations are +/- 1 cm for each dimension of the project.
The terraces are divided into large and standard terraces. It is assumed that a large, wide terrace is an area in which the width measured across the slabs is greater than 2.5 m (the length of the terrace measured along the slabs is not relevant - it can be any length). The calculator on the website automatically checks each configured terrace and displays the resulting calculation. In addition, information on whether the terrace is large is provided in a PDF file created by the calculator. In the case of large terraces and terraces with steps, you must contact the distributor's sales department to complete the warranty card attachment before purchase.
When designing and subsequently laying large terraces, do not forget to leave the appropriate expansion joints on the side of the terrace, the recommendations for the size of the expansion joints can be found in the warranty card. When using the "bricks" and "rows" pattern, the expansion joints are only used "across the width of the terrace", with the walls (railing columns, ...) parallel to the direction of laying the slabs. They must be at least 1.5% of the terrace width at that location. Expansion joints are not required on the "terrace length". When using the "square" pattern, expansion joints should be left on each side of the terrace and a minimum of 1.5% of the terrace size at that location.
